The Historic Town of Durango
What sets Durango apart from many ski resorts is that the appeal of its skiing is matched by the region's historic sites and four-season recreation. The Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad is as popular as the ski resort. The nearby cliff dwellings of Mesa Verde attracts many visitors as well. And, the town of Durango boasts more restaurants per capita than San Francisco. In fact, according to the Progressive Farmer magazine, Durango and La Plata County were voted in the Top 10 rural areas to live. Given the gorgeous scenery, the wildlife, the mild climate, and the friendly people, it's no wonder so many people want to move here.
